More People Getting Married by Jason

Gov. David Patterson issued a directive to NY state agencies this month to recognize gay marriage performed in other states.  This ground-breaking move affords same-sex couples 1,324 rights in New York that were previously afforded only to heterosexual couples, such as death benefits, hospital-visitation rights, prescription-drug coverage, income-tax filings, receiving workers’ compensation benefits, and submitting a proxy vote for their partner in an election.

Previously, same-sex couples who were legally married elsewhere (throughout the world, in such places as Canada, Italy, England, Spain, or even the US Sate of Massachusetts) would not be considered “married” within the US or be afforded any rights or benefits.

This directive will also make it easier for same-sex couples who are non-California residents to visit California to get married, and then return to their home state and retain their “married” status, resulting in increased travel and tourist dollars for places like New York and California, and dream weddings for a lot more couples then ever before!

This is great! Any two people who are in love should have the option of getting married.
