For many newlyweds, the planning process extends beyond the “big day,” to the new life in the new home. But for a lot of those newlyweds don’t know what to look for, and what to ask, when house shopping.

Dreamhouse Hunting tips after the jump!

Here are 5 Common First-Time Home Buyer Mistakes:

  1. Not asking enough questions of their lender. You may miss out on the best deal if you’re overly shy.
  2. Not acting quickly enough. You don’t want to rush to a decision, of course, but if you wait too long you risk losing your dream house to someone else. It’s a competitive market!
  3. Not finding the right agent. Only work with someone who’s willing to help you through the entire process.
  4. Not making their offer look appealing enough to the seller. It’s all about negotiating and haggling!
  5. Not thinking about resale before they buy. The average first-time buyer only stays in a home for four years.
